Medical Center Upgrades with a Major Emergency, Intensive Care, and Helipad Expansion

Looking to expand services for its growing patient population, the Ukiah Valley Medical Center hired Herrero for preconstruction and construction services for an Emergency Department expansion and new Intensive Care Unit addition linking to its existing and operational single-story medical center campus. The phased construction included: a replacement Emergency Department with reception and new ambulatory and pedestrian entry; a new ICU patient wing, complete with trauma, bariatric, and isolation rooms; multiple building connections and breezeways to the existing facility; a new PET/CT; a canopy for ambulance drop-off; central nursing units; support spaces, staff lounge/office space; public waiting, reception, and multi-purpose room. The rooftop features a new helipad, penthouse for elevator, and replacement Central Utility Plant, which Herrero managed to bring online while the existing hospital remained occupied and operational.  Herrero worked with closely with the hospital staff throughout to implement thoughtful phasing to minimize disruption to the building and its patients.
