| Stanford University Building 250 Seismic Strengthening of Sandstone and Brick Structure 2 stories, 14,500 square feet Historic sandstone, brick, wood Architect: Carey & Co., Inc. This project was a challenging seismic renovation of an historic building and interior remodel with ADA upgrades. A key phase of this project required structural shoring of the sandstone arches along the historic Stanford Arcade. The supporting columns were completely removed and replaced with detailed pre-cast reinforced concrete elements replicating the original sandstone columns. Classrooms were designed in a lecture/ seminar style and are technology enhanced to facilitate multimedia presentations through the use of SmartPanels. The SmartPanels or “docking stations,” are set in the front of the classrooms, have full Ethernet connectivity, access to campus TV, are compatible with PC's or Mac's and virtually any presentation technology. All demolition, construction and finishes were strictly monitored by the Historic Preservation Architect and Stanford University. All work was performed on the occupied college campus where sensitivity to the campus environment and the safety of our “neighbors” was critical. |
