| San Francisco University High School New Student Center, Classrooms, Gym and Theatre Renovation 2 story, 5,000 square foot Student Center and 7,000 square foot, 400-Seat Theater Concrete Architect: Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Moris University High School in San Francisco contracted with Herrero to construct a new student center to adjoin the upper campus building designed by Julia Morgan in 1926. The jobsite was located in the center of campus, completely surrounded by existing buildings. We temporarily protected an existing corridor and built steel ramps to provide access for the removal of over 1,000 cubic yards of soil and concrete. The completed project included the new main plaza with the student center below along with connecting walkways to the existing library building. The complete gut and remodel of the 400-seat theatre began at the end of the 2000 school year and was completed within 7 months, in time for the 2001 semester. This state-of-the-art theatre includes an overhead steel catwalk system, new sloped seating, high end finishes, all new theatrical lighting, audio, rigging and curtain systems, and a specialized theatre-quiet HVAC system. |
