| Siboni Arts & Science Center, Schools of the Sacred Heart New Arts and Science Building 7 story, 45,000 square feet Concrete and Steel, Brick Veneer Architect: Simon Martin-Vegue Winkelstein Moris The Siboni Arts and Science Center for Schools of the Sacred Heart is located on a steep San Francisco hill in the upscale, residential neighborhood of Pacific Heights. Constructed on the occupied K-12 school campus, the new structure required underpinning of the adjacent 4-story classroom building to almost 70’ - one of the deepest excavations in San Francisco history. The new building includes a state-of-the-art 300-seat performing arts theater, science labs, music and art rooms. Access throughout the building is provided by a 7-story elevator and a series of interlinking staircases. In addition to providing spectacular views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay, each of the three rooftops was designed as play space for the students. This was Herrero's third project with Schools of the Sacred Heart. The September 2004 School Construction News industry magazine features a story entitled "School Facility at Home Among Mansions" about this project. |
