| Cavallo Point Lodge & Retreat at Fort Baker Retreat and Conference Center 14 New Buildings (45,000 sf) 21+ Renovated Historic Buildings (110,000 sf) Site Infrastructure Improvements Architects: Leddy, Maytum, Stacy (New Buildings) Architectural Resources Group (Historic Buildings) Fort Baker is a 335-acre former U.S. Army post built in the early 1900's. Herrero restored 22 historic buildings for the Cavallo Point Lodge and Retreat, including 13 houses that were converted into lodging and two barracks buildings that were converted into reception, meeting and retail spaces, a restaurant and a lounge. The site's former chapel and gym were converted into meeting space. An old mine storage building was renovated for use as a laundry, storage and maintenance facility. The remaining structures, formerly officers' quarters are part of the new Healing Arts Center that includes a spa, pool, and fitness room. The parade grounds were also preserved to maintain the distinctive look and feel of the Fort Baker of the past. The site is on National Park Service land adjacent to an endangered species of butterfly, which made site logistics particularly challenging. In addition, the project was built safely and securely while the neighboring Discovery Children's Museum was open to the public. Visit Cavallo Point |
