| Schools of the Sacred Heart New Gymnasium & Classrooms 2 story, 20,000 square feet Concrete Architect: Whisler Patri This new school gymnasium was built under the historic Flood Mansion and above a 30-foot retaining wall along the steepest section of Webster Street in San Francisco. Our sequencing plan took into account stabilization of the existing structure (built circa 1910), limited access, sequencing of concrete structure and backfill operations, as well as the need to keep Schools of the Sacred Heart in full operation during most of the construction. The completed project includes a full size gymnasium with an indoor track on the upper level, exercise rooms and two art classrooms, placed inconspicuously behind the existing retaining wall on Vallejo Street. Herrero has gone on to complete two more projects for Schools of the Sacred Heart including the Stuart Hall Boy's High School and the new Siboni Arts and Science Center, being constructed adjacent to this gymnasium. |
