Herrero recently completed a complete renovation of two hospital bed floors in a fully occupied 4-story hospital located at Duboce Ave and Castro Street in San Francisco. The project was completed on time and licensing was received the same day as the certificate of occupancy.

All work was completed while the hospital remained open and fully operational, with two patient floors above and one lobby below the construction. In order to address zero laydown space on-site, Herrero used LastPlanner and VDC to schedule Just-In-Time deliveries.

Well-planned and -coordinated utility tie-ins were critical to patient and staff safety. A safety orientation video was created for all Herrero staff and subcontractors and helped the project achieve zero injuries among staff and patients.

The center features innovative design such as a talking bed that can translate 25 different languages and patient lift systems that can hold patients weighing up to 1,100 pounds.

Spread out over 2 floors, the center includes a common area for watching movies and TV, a rehabilitation gym, and a full service kitchen with appliances that are height-adjustable for wheelchair patients. The project also includes a transitional living unit that allows patients and their families real world practice in a fully equipped studio apartment to determine if they are ready to return home.
